Plarn Sleeping Mats

This is a craft project that is full of heart as well as being community minded. Crocheting a mercy mat with plarn, that is, plastic yarn is a creativity project with specific mission: to care for and to comfort the homeless people in our community.

Please consider donating your bags to to Saint John Bosco Parish for this special project. You can leave the bags in the designated box in the Usher’s Room. It takes approximately 500 plastic bags to make a 6-foot-tall mat with two-inch straps and carry handle. Completed plastic mats will be donated to a local ministry that does outreach to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Thank you for your support.

O God, Who gladden us year by year
as we wait in hope for our redemption,
grant that, just as we joyfully welcome
Your Only Begotten Son as our Redeemer,
we may also merit to face Him confidently
when He comes again as our Judge.
Who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Fourth Sunday of Advent and
The Nativity of the Lord

The faithful are bound to observe the obligation of Holy Mass for a Sunday as usual for the Fourth Sunday of Advent with attendance at the Anticipated Mass (23 December) or on Sunday morning (24 December). The faithful are bound to observe the obligation of Holy Mass for Christmas at the Vigil Mass (24 December) or on Christmas Day (25 December). Thus, the faithful have two obligations back to back. It would be helpful to the faithful to publish this information all throughout this Advent.

Bienaventurada Virgen María de Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe

All are welcome to our Parish Celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday 12 December 2023. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00pm in the parish Church.

This feast recalls the apparitions of the Blessed Virgen Mary at the hill of Tepeyac from 9–12 December 1531 to the native convert, Juan Diego; known to the Aztecs as Tecoatlaxope (or de Guadalupe in Spanish), meaning “she will crush the serpent of stone;” declared patroness of the Americas by Pope Pius XII and raised to the rank of Feast for all the countries of the Americas by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, 25 March 1999.

O God, Father of mercies, Who placed Your people
under the singular protection of Your Son’s most holy Mother,
grant that all who invoke the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe,
may seek with ever more lively faith the progress of peoples
in the ways of justice and of peace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
